On August 19, 2024, the innovative sake project “Shisora 3.0” launched, building on the newly established brand “Shisora.” This project offers a unique experience where investors actively participate in the design of the sake’s flavor profile, allowing them to produce their ideal sake.
Creating “Shisora 3.0” with Investors
“Shisora,” a new brand developed by the Shiwa Sake Brewery in Shiwa Town, Iwate Prefecture, has garnered significant attention in the sake industry. The name “Shisora” combines the “Shiwa” from Shiwa Town with the word “sora” (meaning “sky” in Japanese), symbolizing a serene and uplifting inebriation, akin to floating in the sky. Under the leadership of President Bungo Tanaka, Shiwa Sake Brewery’s “Shisora” has become a highly sought-after brand, with constant orders from sake retailers leading to frequent sellouts.
The project is part of the newly added crowdfunding category “SAKE 3.0,” which offers a participatory experience where consumers collaborate with breweries to create new sake brands. Inspired by the concept of decentralized autonomous organizations (DAOs) from “WEB3.0,” this project aims to revitalize the sake market with consumers at the forefront.
In this project, investors become tank owners of “Shisora 3.0” and can communicate directly with Shiwa Sake Brewery to propose the type of sake they wish to create. Based on these proposals, the brewery will offer specific suggestions, and the product will be developed accordingly. Investors also have the opportunity to experience the brewing process firsthand and may even be appointed as ambassadors if they significantly contribute to the project.
The project seeks investors from August 19 to September 8, 2024. During this period, online meetings and real brewery experiences will be conducted to determine the final flavor profile and product specifications. The final product, “Shisora 3.0,” is expected to be completed by May 2025, with the initial distribution to investors as a return on their investment. The sake will also be available for general sale, ensuring that the product created through this project reaches a broad market.
The “Shisora 3.0” project goes beyond the mere production and sale of sake. It aims to create a new sake culture by uniting consumers and breweries, thus revitalizing the market. The sake born from this project is expected to play a significant role in shaping the future of Japanese sake culture.
