Exploring the Past, Present, and Future of CLT Construction

Cross-Laminated Timber (CLT) is garnering attention as a revolutionary technology in timber construction. The “CLT Forum 2024,” to be held on October 30 in Osaka, will focus on the evolution and future of CLT through expert lectures and panel discussions.
In the first part of the forum, Hideo Koshihara, Vice Chairman of the CLT Architecture Promotion Council and a professor at the Institute of Industrial Science at the University of Tokyo, will give a lecture on the history of CLT development. Additionally, Yosuke Komiyama from Kyoto University Graduate School will provide insights into the global trends of CLT construction in his lecture, “The Current State of CLT Architecture Worldwide.”
The second part of the event will feature a panel discussion titled “The Current State of CLT and the Future of Urban Timber Construction,” moderated by Koshihara. Panelists include prominent experts such as Mika Araki from Kwansei Gakuin University and Yukimasa Kita from Kita Architectural Laboratory, who will discuss the future of CLT in urban environments.
