On September 19, 2024, Clarivate Analytics Japan announced the recipients of the 2024 Citation Laureates. This year’s list includes 22 researchers and economists from six countries, all of whom are considered leading candidates for the Nobel Prize. Their contributions span diverse fields such as clean energy, AI, and nanotechnology, and their work is seen as having a profound global impact.

Recognizing Research with Global Impact

The Citation Laureates, awarded by Clarivate, are often regarded as predictive of future Nobel Prize winners, with 75 past recipients going on to receive the Nobel. This year’s honorees have led innovations in areas ranging from clean energy and quantum computing to treatments for cardiovascular diseases. Particularly in AI, Google DeepMind’s advancements in deep learning are being recognized for their potential to drive progress in science and healthcare.
Among the recipients are Jonathan C. Cohen from the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center and John M. Jumper of Google DeepMind, whose pioneering research has gained widespread acclaim. Jumper noted, “This award symbolizes the progress of AI research and promises further innovations ahead.”
The Citation Laureates are selected based on the influence of their past publications, serving as a key indicator of future Nobel contenders. Clarivate’s analysts meticulously review data from the Web of Science, identifying papers cited over 2,000 times to forecast potential Nobel Prize candidates.
The 2024 list includes outstanding researchers in physics, chemistry, physiology or medicine, and economics, whose work is expected to significantly shape the future of scientific and societal progress.
