The Osaka Science Museum will host a special exhibition titled “Dreams of Science at Expo ’70” starting December 6. This exhibition revisits the scientific advancements showcased at the 1970 Osaka Expo while exploring their progression to present-day innovations. With the 2025 Osaka-Kansai Expo approaching, the event offers a unique opportunity to reflect on the potential of science and technology.
Connecting Expo ’70’s Vision of the Future with Modern Science
The 1970 Osaka Expo left an indelible mark by showcasing the boundless possibilities of science and technology. The event introduced revolutionary concepts such as computers, space exploration, and advanced communication systems, all hinting at a brighter future. Through archival footage and panel displays, the exhibition recreates the vision of the future depicted at the Expo. Additionally, visitors can explore the contents of the time capsule planned at the Panasonic Pavilion and buried near Osaka Castle, symbolizing the Expo’s aspirations for future generations.
In the first phase of the exhibition, highlights include the IBM System/360, a groundbreaking computer model displayed at the Expo, along with rare archival materials. The second phase shifts focus to space exploration, featuring lunar samples brought back by Apollo 15 and exhibits on the evolution of space science.
