Learning from Estonia: The Future of a Digitally-Driven Society
Estonia, one of the Baltic States, is recognized worldwide as a leading “digital nation,” with most administrative processes completed online. For Japan, which faces its own demographic and social challenges, Estonia’s success in digitalization offers valuable insights. On October 15, 2024, Seikei University’s Society 5.0 Institute will host a lecture discussing Estonia’s achievements and how they could be adapted to Japan.
The lecture will feature presentations by key experts, including Ms. Chinatsu Sonehara, Director of the Japan-Estonia Friendship Association, former Japanese Ambassador to Estonia Mr. Hajime Kitaoka, and Mr. Raul Allikivi, a startup entrepreneur and former Deputy Director General of the Estonian Ministry of Economic Affairs and Communications. The session will be moderated by Professor Yuriko Haga of Seikei University’s Faculty of Law.
Estonia’s innovative approaches, such as online voting and fully digitalized administrative procedures, provide a roadmap for Japan’s own digitalization efforts. This event will offer a unique opportunity to explore how Japan can build a more efficient and inclusive digital society.
