The Japanese preliminary round of “Polar Bear Pitching,” where startups pitch their business ideas in icy water, is set to take place in Tokyo’s Azabu-Juban on January 24, 2025. Organized by Takagi Building Corporation, this event offers participants the chance to compete in the global finals in Oulu, Finland, drawing attention from investors and media worldwide.

A Unique Challenge: Pitching Ideas in Extreme Conditions

Known for its unconventional format of delivering business pitches while submerged in icy water, “Polar Bear Pitching” is making its Tokyo debut in 2025. Hosted by Takagi Building Corporation in collaboration with Fuchigumi Co., the event will serve as a gateway for innovative Japanese startups to compete in the global finals held in Oulu, Finland.
First established in 2014 in Oulu, Finland, “Polar Bear Pitching” has gained international acclaim for its creative and daring approach. Tokyo’s inaugural competition will feature eight finalist teams from across Japan, presenting their ideas under extreme conditions while vying for the top spot.
To qualify, startups must meet criteria such as conducting pitches in English and possessing a functional prototype. The winner will receive entry to the global finals, along with travel and accommodation support, offering a gateway to the international stage.
“This event provides startups a unique platform to showcase their passion under extreme circumstances and strengthen the business network between Japan and the Nordics,” commented the organizers from Takagi Building Corporation.
By hosting such a daring and internationally focused event, Tokyo takes a bold step toward fostering greater global engagement for its startups.
