As the shortage of healthcare and caregiving professionals worsens, Karadanote Inc. has initiated a new collaboration with Medley Inc. to expand employment opportunities for dormant nurses and caregivers. This new effort aims to address the workforce shortage in the healthcare sector.

Providing Opportunities for Nurses and Caregivers to Return to the Workforce

Karadanote, which operates a business supporting family health, has strengthened its reemployment support for qualified professionals who have left their careers due to pregnancy, childbirth, or childcare. This has been made possible through its partnership with Medley, which operates one of Japan’s largest healthcare and caregiving job portals, “Job Medley.”
Japan’s healthcare and caregiving sectors have long faced a critical shortage of personnel, particularly in nursing and caregiving roles. This shortage has led to overwork in the field, impacting the quality of medical and welfare services. It is estimated that there are around 500,000 dormant nurses nationwide, with the highest latent rate—60.9%—among female nurses aged 30 to 39, primarily due to childbirth and childcare. According to Japan’s Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare, career breaks due to childbirth and childcare are significant reasons for job departures among nursing professionals in their 30s and 40s. Without intervention, it is projected that by 2040, the healthcare and welfare fields will face a shortage of approximately 960,000 workers, making immediate action necessary.
Medley operates “Job Medley,” one of Japan’s largest job portals for healthcare and caregiving, with over 450,000 job listings (as of September 2024). The platform addresses regional workforce imbalances and supports the reemployment of dormant qualified professionals.
Meanwhile, Karadanote provides apps and services focused on family health, particularly supporting pregnancy and childcare. One of their most popular apps, Jintsuu Kitakamo (“Contractions Might Be Starting”), is used by about 90% of expectant mothers and is based on life event data from around 2.5 million households. Leveraging this vast data, Karadanote is reaching out to dormant qualified professionals to encourage their return to the workforce.
This collaboration will offer employment opportunities to dormant nurses and caregivers based on Karadanote’s life event data, supporting individuals who temporarily left their careers to return to work. By promoting the active participation of these dormant professionals in the healthcare sector, this initiative presents a potential solution to the broader workforce shortage.
