AGRIST Inc., which developed the AI system “AGRIST Ai” specifically for agriculture, has introduced new technology aimed at improving agricultural profitability with the support of Microsoft. A demonstration experiment has begun at their own farm in Kagoshima Prefecture, and an over 28.6% increase in revenue is expected.

Improving Agricultural Profitability with AI Technology

AGRIST Inc. (Shintomi Town, Miyazaki Prefecture) is promoting smart agriculture through the use of AI and robotics. The company, in collaboration with Microsoft, recently developed an AI system called “AGRIST Ai” that predicts crop yields. As a new step toward enhancing agricultural productivity with AI, the company has started implementing this system at their own farm in Higashikushira Town, Kagoshima Prefecture.
Japanese agriculture faces challenges such as an aging workforce and a lack of successors. In response to these issues, AGRIST aims to improve agricultural efficiency through technology, striving for sustainable agriculture. AGRIST’s smart farming, powered by AI and robotics, is expanding through partnerships with municipalities and businesses across the country, accelerating the digital transformation (DX) of agriculture.
“AGRIST Ai” was developed on the Azure cloud using Microsoft’s “Copilot.” This AI system analyzes vast amounts of data collected from the farm to predict crop yields, leading to an expected revenue increase of over 28.6% per unit of production.
AGRIST’s farm in Higashikushira Town, Kagoshima Prefecture, features a 3,000-square-meter greenhouse dedicated to growing bell peppers. Smart farming practices combine AI technology with hydroponic cultivation, which uses coconut coir as the growth medium to efficiently boost bell pepper yields. With AI optimizing the amount of fertilizer and irrigation, predicting harvest volumes becomes easier, ultimately improving the overall profitability of the farm.
In addition, AGRIST has introduced an automated harvesting robot as part of this demonstration experiment, advancing the automation of harvesting tasks. Through automated data collection and analysis, AGRIST aims to reduce the burden on farmers while realizing efficient farm management.
With the introduction of “AGRIST Ai,” AGRIST plans to further accelerate the digital transformation of agriculture. In the future, they intend to provide “AGRIST Ai” to other farmers, contributing to the overall improvement of agricultural productivity. They are also looking to develop additional features such as environmental control tools and farm management systems, with the goal of supporting a wider variety of crops based on AI technology.
