This Year’s Theme: “Creating Sustainable Communities and Society through Public-Private Partnerships”

“SHARE SUMMIT,” hosted by the Sharing Economy Association, is Japan’s largest sharing economy event, held annually. This year’s theme is “Creating Sustainable Communities and Society through Public-Private Partnerships.” The event will bring together government officials, municipalities, businesses, and individuals to share ideas and experiences for creating a sustainable society.
Yuuji Ueda, Chairman of the Association, stated, “This summit is an important opportunity to discuss how the sharing economy can benefit local communities and the economy. Public-private partnerships will become increasingly important in building a sustainable future.”
“SHARE SUMMIT 2024” is expected to attract more than 5,000 participants and will be held in a hybrid format, both online and offline. The main venues will be the JA Kyosai Building and MIDORI.so NAGATACHO in Chiyoda, Tokyo.
The event will feature the following highlights:

1.Talk Sessions by Leading Figures
Topics will cover a wide range, including “related population,” “digital nomads,” “ridesharing,” and “utilizing vacant homes.” These are all innovative initiatives gaining attention as new business models for regional revitalization and the tourism industry.
2.Networking Events for Participants, Municipalities, and Companies
Networking opportunities such as “power matching” between municipalities and companies, as well as “mayor and executive pitch” sessions where local leaders and executives present their initiatives, will provide a platform for new collaborations and partnerships.
3.Tours to Visit Sharing Economy Case Studies Across Japan
Participants will have the opportunity to visit actual locations where municipalities and companies are utilizing sharing economy mechanisms. This will help share more concrete ideas and methods for addressing regional issues through innovative solutions.

In advance of the event, an online “Collaborative Planning Meeting” was held on September 12. During this meeting, ideas and opinions from the general public were gathered to enhance the event. Anju Ishiyama, Executive Director of the Sharing Economy Association, also participated and shared her thoughts on the event.
This planning meeting symbolizes the summit’s theme of “public-private partnerships.” The belief is that diverse perspectives and participant input are essential in building a sustainable society. The Sharing Economy Association plans to incorporate these ideas as they finalize the event’s content.
“SHARE SUMMIT 2024” will serve as a platform to explore concrete actions aimed at creating a sustainable society by maximizing the potential of the sharing economy. Through this event, it is anticipated that governments, municipalities, businesses, and individuals will collaborate to discover new business models and methods for revitalizing local communities.
