Gathering of Japan’s Top Rice Producers: Strict Tasting Evaluation to Determine the Best Rice

The “Kome-1 Grand Prix in Rankoshi” is a national contest where rice producers from across Japan come together to showcase their skills and rice quality. The event, which has been held in Rankoshi Town since 2011, attracts numerous producers each year who proudly present their rice. Organized by the Kome-1 Grand Prix in Rankoshi Executive Committee and supported by Rankoshi Town, the event has continued to grow in popularity.
This year’s finals will be held on Saturday, November 23rd, at the Rankoshi Community Development Center, with preliminary judging taking place from Monday, October 21st to Monday, October 28th. During the preliminary judging, students and instructors from culinary schools nationwide will conduct tasting evaluations to select the top 30 entries. These top entries will then undergo final evaluation during the finals, where the Grand Prix, Runner-Up, Gold Prize, Silver Prize, and Bronze Prize will be awarded.
Speaking on behalf of the organizing committee, they expressed, “Through this competition, we aim to further improve the skills of Japan’s rice producers and gain high praise from consumers.” Additionally, there is an open call for general judges, and anyone over the age of 20 is eligible to apply. General judges will participate in the tasting evaluations alongside special judges at the finals, playing a crucial role in evaluating the taste, aroma, and texture of the rice.
The “Kome-1 Grand Prix in Rankoshi” is expected to continue serving as a vital platform for rice producers across the country to strive for higher levels of excellence in rice cultivation.
